A. Again this will vary based on the needs of your pet. Cats should be bathed as needed since they take care of the cleaning themselves and are less than partial to water. Dogs should be bathed at least every 12 - 16 weeks to help eliminate odour and loose hair. Remember, over-bathing is just as bad as under-bathing, it can create coat dryness and dry, itchy skin.
A. This depends on how long you want your pet's coat to be. Many long haired breeds such as the Lhasa Apso, Shih-tzu and poodles are quite attractive with a shorter trim. Keeping your pet's trim short will mean less upkeep for you. Shorter hair tends to mat less and keeping it short will help keep the leaves, twigs and mud where they belong, outside instead of dragged into your home on your pets furry feet or belly.
A. Yes!! Dogs such as the Akita or Siberian Husky and any other similar breeds should not be clipped down because of their coat type. These breeds must be cut very short due to their very thick undercoats, making them more prone to insect bites and sunburn. Contrary to popular belief, a breed such as this is not cooler in the summer when shaved they are actually warmer, their thick coats act as insulation and protection from both the heat and cold.
A. As with our hair, it depends on how fast it grows. Most dogs can go 12 - 16 weeks between cuts. Cats that have the Lion's clip can go up to 16 -18 weeks between clippings.
A. First you will need a good quality slicker brush for basic brushing. You will also need a greyhound comb (coarse and fine tooth combination) to help remove mats. NEVER try to cut mats out as you can easily cut your pet's sensitive skin. Serious mats should be left to your groomer who has more expertise and the proper equipment.

A. All animals need grooming, some more than others. If your cat or dog has long hair it should be brushed daily or at least once weekly. Short haired dogs and cats should be brushed weekly. By doing this you will eliminate the hair that accumulates on your floors and furniture
Q. Does my pet need to be groomed?
A. Any good quality, tearless pet shampoo is great. You can also get shampoos that are used to heighten a specific coat colour. If you are unsure what to use, ask your groomer for help. Bathing a long-haired dog or cat should include shampooing, followed by application of a cream rinse that is allowed to sit on your pet's coat for 5 to 10 minutes. This helps to prevent static electricity which is a contributing factor to matting.
